Video Production Explained
Top 20 Frequently Asked Questions
Who is TVC and what do you specialise in?
theVideocompany is a full-service video production house and event management company with over 22 years of content marketing and 14 years of producing videos. We specialise in corporate video production for corporate clients, brands, and organisations across Southeast Asia. We travelled across the region producing corporate, brand story and travel videos
Where are you based and where can you film?
We are based in Singapore with filming crew in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and London. We've shot in four markets for a single campaign with one project lead, one quote, one timeline—across borders. Local expertise, centralised management
How much does a video cost?
Every project requirement varies greatly from one another.
Corporate video production in Singapore typically ranges from SGD 5,000 to SGD 15,000+. Pricing depends on script complexity, storytelling elements, crew size, filming days, number of locations, talents, graphics requirement, and post-production scope. At TVC, we share an indicative price range within one working day of receiving a brief. Learn more about video production cost
How long does it take to produce a corporate video?
While we work with each client to determine an ideal delivery date, each project is different.
Typically, a corporate video takes 3 to 5 weeks from brief to delivery. You can expect to receive the first cut around 9-15 working days upon filming. We're also experienced in working with tight deadlines and have delivered projects smoothly when needed
Do I need a script before booking a video production company?
No. A professional production company will help you develop the script as part of pre-production. You should come with a clear goal, the target audience, key messages, and any brand guidelines. We will turn that brief into a script, storyboard, and shot list. More often than not, some clients do come with a script, and we help to refine and elevate the script to achieve your goal
Do we own the video after delivery?
You own 100% of the deliverables, edited final output. You may distribute, modify, reproduce anyways you deem fit.
Except work-for-hire-filming contracts, the raw and working files are not part of the service deliverable
How does video production process work?
Five stages. No surprises. Starts with discovery meeting to establish the objective, together with your definition of success, writing the strategic angle, pre-production script, production filming and post-production. See how it works
How is TVC different from other production companies?
We're marketers, not just filmmakers. We practice Strategy-First creative process, and start each project with an end goal, and the positioning. With 14 years of directing c-suite, founders and leaders, every detail is tastefully design to meet the objective. Not just looking good
Do you provide talents for the project?
Yes, as a full-service video production house, we help clients with talent casting, talent management, and all other production related scope of work
How many rounds of revisions are included?
For most projects, we include a standard of two rounds of revisions or changes. Should you need more revisions, we're happy to accommodate with a transparent add-ons
How do we get started?
Best to submit your request for a free quote or email us at contact@thevideocompany.sg
Share as much as you can about your goals, target audience, timelines, reference video links, and stipulated budget, we'll take it from there
What kind of budgets and clients do you work with?
We position ourselves as a premium video production company. We love to work with clients who value processes and upfront about what they want, and what they have. Eventually, if you do good, we look good too. But we're probably not the right fit if you need a single 60-second social video under SGD500. We work best when there's a real outcome on the line and believe in making an impact
Should I share my budget upfront?
Yes. Production companies that ask for your budget aren't trying to inflate the quote — they're trying to design the right scope for what you can spend. It saves everyone's time, really. And it is important that we are aligned from the start
We want to produce a video but not sure what budget we have?
Firstly, you need to be clear with your goals and your definition of success. At the minimum, work out a realistic budget based on cost-per-acquisition or cost-per-impression, depending on your goal. Reality is quality and budget goes hand-in-hand.
Here's a quick guide about video production that will help you understand
Can I switch from per-project to retainer later?
Yes, that's the natural path. Many clients engage us on an ongoing basis.
Test the relationship on 1-2 individual projects, then move to retainer once you've
validated quality, relationship, speed and process fit
Are flat fees on retainer cheaper than per-project?
On per-video basis, yes — retainer contracts are typically 15–25% cheaper at volume
Why do video production prices vary so much?
Because price tracks complexity, not duration. A 60-second Commercial with actors, shooting on multiple locations, set design,
props and VFX can cost more than a 5-minute interview video (Commercial S$75,000 vs S$5,500 Corporate Interview).
Always brief on outcome, not just length
How much does it cost to hire an in-house videographer in Singapore?
A mid-level videographer costs S$4,500 to S$7,500/month in salary, equipment (S$15,000 to S$30,000 to start),
software and storage (S$3,500/year). Fully loaded annual cost: ~S$80,000 to S$150,000.
It make sense to outsource to a video production house in most cases. You ride on their expertise, talent and resources
When does outsourcing stop making sense?
When you're spending more than S$150,000/year producing similar format every time, and your
external partner can't keep up with your cadence — that's the in-house tipping point
Is a video production company different from a videographer?
Yes. A videographer typically operates solo. A production company manages strategy, bringing in the right
expertise-crew, post-production and the delivery as a coordinated team with creative direction
Is it cheaper to hire a freelancer than a production company?
Yes, based on a day rate — freelancers in Singapore charge S$800– to S$1,500/day vs. S$5,500+ for a professional production company with a lean team of 3-4 crew. But freelancers don't typically handle scripting, direction, multi-camera setups or guaranteed delivery timelines. For one-off social media shoots, freelancer works. For anything strategic and full-service, a production company is more driven and the better unit economics
What other services you provide?
Though we pride ourselves as a leading corporate video production company in Singapore, we also do production related services. With more than 22 years of content marketing and production, our capabilities expand including:

Do video production companies write the script?
Most full-service video production houses, including ours, do. Scripting is part of pre-production.
Today, most clients provide a draft and we refine it (savings on pre-production)
What's the difference between a corporate video and a brand story video?
A corporate video is factual and informational. It explains what a company does, who they serve, and how it works. A brand story (oftenly regarded as narrative) is emotional and story-led. It explains why a company exists and what it stands for. Both are produce for business outcomes, but they serve different stage of customer journey. Corporate video suit sales decks, presentation, event and tenders. Brand story suit homepage heroes, campaigns and brand positioning
What makes corporate video works?
Simply, avoid the common pitfalls. We wrote an exhaustive checklist on this.

Do you provide video content marketing strategy?
Yes, let us know your objective and stipulated budget and we will tailor-made a content
and video marketing strategy for you
Can you do social media videos?
We can do everything video, audio and media-related productions
Should small businesses make their own videos with a phone instead?
For day-to-day social content, yes — and the iPhone 15+ is decent enough. For brand-defining assets
(homepage video, sales-deck, brand story, testimonial videos), professional production still pays back faster
How often should a brand produce new video?
Lifespan of a video is rather short in this digital age, so is viewers attention.
A flagship brand video, every 12 months. 3 customer testimonials videos and 1 promotional video, quarterly.
Social content depend on channel strategy, minimally once a week
Should we make a new video every month?
Yes, probably more but you must have a distribution plan that consumes that cadence. Most businesses produce too much and distribute too little. A single great video repurposed into 8 social cuts beats 8 mediocre videos
Does YouTube need a different video strategy than LinkedIn or TikTok?
Yes — YouTube rewards longer, evergreen content (3–10 min). LinkedIn rewards talking-head, founder-led, native uploads (60–90 sec). TikTok and Instagram Reels reward short, hook-led, vertical (15–60 sec). Same brand, different format
Do longer or shorter videos convert better?
Shorter videos have higher retention rates. Longer videos often have higher conversion-per-retention. The right length is as short as possible, as long as necessary. A 30-second promo video converts differently than a 3-minute case study video — both are valid
Are animated videos or live-action better for conversion?
Live-action videos with real people generally outperforms animation for testimonials and brand stories.
Animation outperforms live-action for explainers covering complex or abstract topics
Can one video have multiple goals or objectives?
Rarely work. A single video trying to build emotional brand affinity AND drive immediate clicks usually does neither.
Each video objective should have only one key message, one CTA.
Alternatively, produce one strong brand video, then cut performance edits from the same footage
What's the ideal spend split between brand and performance (promotional) video?
For growing brands with paid spend, the often-cited "60/40" rule (60% brand, 40% performance) holds up reasonably well.
Reality: Most companies are closer to 10/90 — too much performance. Audience today are interested in your culture
your dramatic processes. Balance it back with Brand story, Brand film and Founder series that elevates your positioning
Will AI video replace production companies in 5 years?
Replace: unlikely. Reshape: certainly. The companies still around in 2030 will be the ones that adopted AI as a tool inside a human production workflow, not the ones that pretended AI didn't exist or the ones that tried to fully automate
Should I hold off on producing video professionally until AI gets better?
No. The video you need right now such as customer stories, brand story, founder stories are the videos AI is least likely to produce well, even in the next 5 years. Waiting costs you more than it saves
How do I tell AI-generated video and real video apart?
In 2026, most viewers can still tell — especially on second viewing onwards. The "tells" are subtle texture inconsistency, hand and finger errors, micro-expression flatness, looks too perfect to be true, and physics that almost-but-don't-quite work.
Real cameras capture light differently than synthetic models rendering it. AI-generated videos lack of substance, fluffy yet entertaining, but brands and viewers very much appeal to authenticity when it comes to daily transactions
